BLACKHORSE NURSERY

New housing in the green belt

Private

Quick Summary

The former Blackhorse horticultural nursery is situated in a rural location within the Green Belt.

The project comprised the demolition of redundant nursery buildings and their replacement with three, individually designed, houses for private clients. Due to the location of the site, a case for Very Special Circumstances was submitted, as part of the detailed planning application.  We undertook detailed consultation with neighbours who then supported the application.  One of the plots was subsequently sold on and the practice was retained for the construction phase of the remaining properties.

Each property stands within its own extensive grounds.  Part of each garden has been safeguarded as natural open space in order to maintain and enhance the natural environment.  The ground floor accommodation comprises Lounge, Dining Room, Family Room, Study, Kitchen/Breakfast Room and Utility Room. At first floor level there are 5 Bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms.  At second floor level there is a Cinema/Games Room.  Plot 1 also has an outdoor swimming Pool.

Air–source heat pumps have been incorporated within the scheme in order to provide a source of renewable energy. The building fabric is also highly insulated in order to reduce energy consumption in line with current best practice.

Externally, the gardens have been substantially landscaped, in an appropriate theme to suit the rural location.
